Eliciting /s/ from /t/

How to Use:

  • This activity involves eliciting /s/ from the /t/ sound.

  • Have your client practice the “flat tire sound” by producing /t/ three times and then “exploding” the sound during the fourth trial (t…t…t…tsssss).

  • Use the arrow as a visual reinforcer!

Important Notes:

  • Make sure you call it the “flat tire” or “exploding t” sound since the goal is to encourage a new motor plan for the correct production of /s/.

  • Calling it the “s sound” may make your client hesitant to practice if they are aware that they distort this sound.

Next Step:

  • Once your client has the correct articulatory placement for /ts/, move on to the monosyllabic word flower pot.

Ideas for Use:

  • Add Chipper Chat coins to the flowers while practicing.

  • Laminate and use Play-Doh to fill in the flowers while practicing.

  • Use dabbers to fill in the flowers while practicing.

  • Color the flowers with crayons/markers while practicing.

  • Remember to provide positive feedback and encouragement throughout sessions to help your client feel more confident and motivated in their progress.
